BOURNE — Police have identified the 61-year-old woman killed in a motor vehicle crash near the Bourne bridge Sunday afternoon.

Deborah Carney of Middleboro was a passenger in a 2014 Honda CR-V that was struck from behind by a 2012 Freightliner, according to a preliminary investigation by Massachusetts State Police.

Police reported that they responded to an auto accident on Route 28 northbound, before the Bourne Bridge around 4 p.m.

A preliminary investigation by Trooper Earl Johnson indicated that a 2012 Freightliner was traveling on Route 28 northbound when it struck the rear end of a 2014 Honda CR-V, police said. Also involved in the crash was a 2011 Acura MDX.

One of the occupants of the Honda, a 15-year-old girl, was transported by Boston Med flight to Rhode Island Hospital with life-threatening injuries; she was later transported to Hasbro Children’s Hospital.

Carney, also an occupant in the Honda, was transported by Bourne EMS to Toby Hospital in Wareham, where she was pronounced dead.

Three other occupants were transported to Falmouth Hospital with minor injuries.

The operator of the Freightliner, a 43-year-old man from Lynn, was uninjured, police said.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and State Police said no further information was available as of Monday afternoon.
