TAUNTON — Victoria’s Secret in the Silver City Galleria mall reportedly lost $500 worth of merchandise to shoplifters last Friday, according to police.

It’s hardly the first time the lingerie and accessories retail shop in Taunton has been hit by thieves posing as customers.

In June 2016 a store manager told police that pants and shirts worth $1,400 were stolen while she and another employee were busy helping other customers.

There were three Gazette stories in 2014 describing shoplifting incidents at the Taunton Victoria’s Secret.

In one instance three women reportedly got away with nearly $900 worth of women’s panties.

Later that month police said they caught up with two women in the parking lot who were suspected of shoplifting clothes from Victoria’s Secret and two other clothing stores in the mall.

And in February of that year, police arrested a city woman for shoplifting cologne, panties and clothing with a retail value exceeding $400.

In last Friday’s incident, an employee told police she suspected two women she recognized as having come into the store earlier in the week of shoplifting the missing merchandise.

Police said they would review surveillance video. No arrests have been made.
