WAREHAM — A Falmouth man was arrested Friday morning after a chase through the Onset section of town, police said.

Yarmouth police alerted Wareham early Friday to be on the lookout for an unlicensed driver, operating a red pickup truck and possibly headed to their town, according to a press release from the Wareham Police Department. The driver had made threats in Yarmouth.

About 6 a.m., Wareham Sgt. Dan Henderson attempted to stop the truck on Onset Avenue, but the driver sped off, traveling through side streets in Onset, police said. He traveled through the area of Freshmeadow Drive and Bertino and Midway streets, where a fence and lawn were damaged.

As the driver continued to elude officers, police called off the chase and monitored the truck's movement, police said.

Minutes later, the truck arrived at the Wareham Police Station on Route 28 and the driver, who was only occupant of the vehicle, was taken into custody, police said.

The driver, Chad Fernandes, 19, was arrested and charged with failure to stop for police, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, failing to maintain marked lanes, speeding and leaving the scene after causing property damage, according to police.
