NEW BEDFORD — Two women were arrested Tuesday afternoon when they caused a disturbance after one pulled a fire alarm at the Women's Addiction Treatment Center and they ran across Route 18, police said.
Officers responded about 1:25 p.m. to the treatment center at 108 N. Front St. regarding a fire alarm that had been pulled, according to a spokeswoman for the New Bedford Police Department. Two women, including the one charged with pulling the fire alarm, ran in a westerly direction towards Acushnet Avenue.
The women climbed a chain link fence and ran across Route 18, forcing motorists to swerve and stop to avoid an accident, she said. They were stopped by members of the New Bedford Fire Department.
Hailey M. Gregoire, 26, of 4 Woodedge Ave., Braintree, and Sarah Cary, 28, of 486 Oak St., Bridgewater, are charged with disturbing the peace, according to the NBPD police logs. Gregoire is also charged with pulling a fire alarm.
