NEW BEDFORD — A 26-year-old woman died of an apparent drug overdose in New Bedford on Tuesday.

A friend found the victim unresponsive in her bedroom in the afternoon, according to Gregg Miliote, a spokesman for the Bristol County District Attorney’s office. She was in her apartment on Viall Street, he said.

Several used needles were found in the apartment, along with a bag of suspected heroin. Paramedics found a needle in the victim’s hand, he said.

She was deceased at the time of their arrival.

New Bedford police received the call at 2:43 p.m., according to the police log.
