NEW BEDFORD — After the double homicide Tuesday in New Bedford, gunshots were reported in two other areas of the city that day, both after sundown.

The first call came at 7:42 p.m. from someone who reported hearing gunfire. The report came from Forest Street, just below Allen Street between Dartmouth and County streets, according the police log.

Then, at 10:40 p.m., someone reported the discharge of a firearm and malicious damage to a motor vehicle, according to the log. The report came from Summer Street in the vicinity of Campbell Street.

The New Bedford Police Department has not provided any further information on the shots-fired incidents, and no public information ties them to the homicide at this time.

In the pre-dawn hours earlier that day, two men were killed outside 200 Central Ave. Police responded at about 1:30 a.m. and found Stephen Bodden, 27, of Taunton, dead at the scene. Fabio Tavares, 28, of New Bedford, later died at St. Luke’s Hospital.

Police had received reports of a gun being fired at a vehicle. When they arrived on Central Avenue, they found a 2001 Honda Accord driven by Bodden had hit a parked vehicle. Tavares was a passenger in the Honda.
