SWANSEA — The long planned work on the Pearse Road culvert is beginning this week with preparation and will close the road beginning Oct. 16.
The Kenefick Corp. of Quincy, which was praised for the work they did on the Swansea Dam, completing on time and on budget, was the low bidder for the $450,000 culvert work.
Director of Highway Services and Engineering Alan Corvi, noted that he expected temporary lane closures this week and full closure beginning on Monday.
"We expect the closure to take place a minimum of three weeks," Corvi said. "That depends on the weather and if there is other unexpected work like utilities. We know there is a water line that will be crossed."
Traffic to that section of Touisset will be routed further along Wilber Avenue to Long Lane in Warren, R.I. and then to Barton Avenue.
This work has been a long time in coming since it was found that the old culvert was in disrepair. The location was environmentally sensitive due to the fresh water exiting the land and the salt water subject to tides from the bay, meeting.
