NEW BEDFORD — A Fairhaven man, charged in a vicious assault on a city prostitute in July, had his case continued in New Bedford District Court on Friday until November, according to court records.
Jeffrey Couture, 46, of 378 Main St., Apartment 1, Fairhaven, is charged with aggravated rape serious bodily injury, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault with a dangerous weapon and assault and battery, court records say. He is accused of picking up a prostitute at Acushnet Avenue and Tallman Street in New Bedford on the night of July 29, driving her to Freetown, where he allegedly raped and assaulted her, court documents say.
Prosecutor Chris Abreu said at Friday's court appearance that the district attorney's office is waiting for the return of lab results. The case was continued until Nov. 21 for a probable cause hearing.
Couture has been released from custody on $5,000 cash bail and is on home confinement with his actions monitored by a GPS device.
