MATTAPOISETT — Firefighters battled a blaze early Tuesday at a home at 28 Meadowbrook Lane.

When firefighters arrived at 6:47 a.m., "heavy fire" was showing from top the two-story home, according to Mattapoisett Fire Rescue. The fire took four engine companies and 30 firefighters to get under control in about 30 minutes. Water had to be shuttled in from the closest hydrant, which was more than two miles away.

The department was assisted by the Marion, Rochester and Fairhaven fire departments. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Mattapoisett Fire Department and the Massachusetts State Fire Marshal's Office.

Fire crews remained on scene for the majority of the day assisting the homeowner and investigating the cause. The fire is under investigation at this time. No injuries were reported.

Damages are estimated to be around $300,000. The Red Cross was called in to help the two displaced residents.
