WAREHAM — With more than 30 years of community service to her credit, including on the Board of Selectmen, member Judith Whiteside announced her resignation Tuesday night from the board.
“Tomorrow morning, I will be handing in my resignation and retirement letter,” said Whiteside, who waited till the end of the meeting to make the announcement. She then became tearful. “I do it at this time for personal reasons.”
Board member Alan Slavin, who sits next to Whiteside at meetings, also became emotional then.
“I just have one comment,” he said. “I am quite sad.”
Chairman Peter Teitelbaum agreed.
“I became very sad when you told me this morning,” he said to Whiteside. “I want to thank you for your many years of service to our community. You will be missed.”
The meeting was adjourned quickly afterward and Whiteside left quickly.
Slavin said that the open position will not come up for a special election as Town Meeting/Election Day is April 3.
