BROCKTON — Two young brothers who were killed last week will be laid to rest in the city this coming weekend.

A funeral Mass will be held Saturday for Edson “Marlon” Brito, 8, and La’son Brito, 5, who were found stabbed to death inside a Prospect Street home last Monday.

The funeral arrangements are being handled by the Mattapan-based George Lopes Funeral Home, whose owner lives in Brockton.

The funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday at St. Edith Stein Church, at 71 East Main St. People can pay their respects to the boys from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home, at 647 Main St., in Brockton.

The boys will be buried at the Melrose Cemetery on North Pearl Street following the funeral Mass.

Edson, a second-grade student at the Louis F. Angelo Elementary School, and his brother La’son were found inside the family’s home at 245-247 Prospect St. early in the afternoon of Feb. 5. Police and firefighters initially responded for an unknown medical incident involving the boys’ mother, Latarsha Letrice Sanders.

Sanders was taken to the hospital, and police went to the third-floor apartment to make sure her children weren’t home alone. That’s where police say they found the two boys, in separate beds, dead from numerous stab wounds.

Sanders, 43, is charged with two counts of murder related to her sons’ deaths.

People can leave condolences online and send flowers by visiting the funeral home’s website at www.georgelopesfuneralhome.com.
