The Westport River Watershed Alliance will be hosting its fifth annual Winter Art Show and silent auction at the Dedee Shattuck Gallery beginning on Saturday, Feb. 24.
This year, the contributing artists are continuing the theme “Oars and Paddles,” transforming old oars and paddles into works of art. Over 50 old oars were donated and are being beautified by many well-known local artists. The show has been extended to two weeks this year.
“This event is a fun distraction from the winter doldrums, and takes place in the warm and bright space of the Shattuck Gallery,” the Westport River Watershed Alliance (WRWA) stated in a press release. “Past events have drawn hundreds of visitors from all over the area.”
The silent auction at the show’s finale will take place on Saturday, March 10, with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. For a preview of the silent auction, visit the WRWA web page: www.westportwatershed.org
Volunteers are welcome for two-hour time slots during the two weeks of the show, greeting guests and helping to manage the gallery show.
On March 3, the WRWA is hosting Brushes and Brews, during which guests can enjoy some beer from Buzzards Bay Brewing, and pizza, and take an art lesson from local artists Pam Clarkson and Barbara Healy at the gallery from 5 to 7 p.m.
The fee is $40, or become a new WRWA member for $50 and get in for no charge. Fee covers the cost of all materials, food and refreshments. Space is limited to 15, registration in advance is required. Participants will work on canvas with acrylic paints.
