More than 50 guests, including four generations of family members, gathered for the 100th birthday celebration of Dorothy Blackburn on March 24 at the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home.

Dorothy was born in New Bedford in 1918 and has enjoyed a lifetime of happiness in the city. A devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Dorothy adores spending time with her family.

Growing up, she had a wonderful knack for crafts and sewing, a talent that lead to her becoming a successful seamstress for many years.

But Dorothy's real passion in her younger days was dancing. She spent much of her free time at the Lincoln Park Ballroom, dancing to the big bands. Dorothy danced well into her 80's and while she may have hung up her dancing shoes, her love of the swing era music plays on.
