NEW BEDFORD — Firefighters worked quickly to knock down a fire on Church Street on Tuesday.

District Chief Scott Kruger described the incident in a social media post:

"Engine 8 arrived on scene and reported fire on the southeast corner of the second floor of a two-story, one-family residence.

The two adult occupants had evacuated prior to our arrival. The crews extinguished fire in the first and second floor walls, and in the ceiling of an enclosed first floor porch. Ladder 4 was able to cut a ventilation hole in the roof to release heat and smoke.

No injuries were reported.

The fire was investigated by the NBFD Fire Investigation Unit and was determined to be accidental. The Red Cross was called to provide assistance to the two adult residents."
