TIVERTON — Twin River will begin training 558 employees this month, preparing for the Sept. 1 opening of its new casino.

The Tiverton Casino Hotel announced it will open to the public at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 1.

There will be 1,000 slot machines, 32 table games, a hotel with 84 rooms and five separate choices for eating, including a sit-down Italian restaurant, Trattoria Romana.

Twin River Management Group hired 387 new employees for the Tiverton casino. The company will close the Newport Grand Casino on Aug. 28. Its employees will move to Tiverton.

When the casino opens, 64 of the 558 employees will be Tiverton residents. Rhode Island residents make up 343 employees, Massachusetts residents 129, Connecticut residents, nine. Thirteen employees come from other states, including states as far away as Nevada and Washington, according to figures supplied by Twin River.

The company constructed a 95,000-square-foot casino as well as a hotel and parking garage on 50 acres of land, just over the Fall River line on William S. Canning Boulevard.

The company invested $140 million on the project, according to John Taylor Jr., chairman of Twin River Worldwide Holdings.

The company most recently held a job fair for cocktail servers, interviewing applicants at the Twin River Casino in Lincoln on Aug. 1.
