Election season is under way in Massachusetts with the primary coming up Sept. 4.

The last day to register to vote in the primary or change your party affiliation for the primary is Aug. 15.

Absentee ballots are available during normal business hours at clerk’s offices across SouthCoast to those who qualify. Residents eligible for an absentee ballot application include following:


Those who will be absent from their city or town during the voting hours of 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. the day of the election.
Those who have a physical disability that prevents them from going to the polls.
Those who have religious beliefs which prevent them from voting the day of the election.

The deadline to cast or apply for an absentee ballot is Aug. 31. You can obtain an absentee ballot application online, http://www.sec.state.ma.us/ele/eleidx.htm.

The primary is Sept. 4 with polls open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

ACUSHNET: The clerk’s office is in Town Hall, 122 Main St. Call 508-998-0215 with any questions.

DARTMOUTH: The town clerk’s office, 400 Slocum Road, will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 15. Call 508-910-1800.

FAIRHAVEN: The town clerk's office, 40 Center St., will be open until 8 p.m. Aug. 15. Call the clerk's office at 505-979-4023, ext. 3.

FREETOWN: The elections office, Town Hall, 3 N. Main St., Assonet, will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 15. Call 508-644-2201, ext. 2.

MARION: The town clerk’s office is at 2 Spring St. Call 508-748-3502.

MATTAPOISETT: The town clerk’s office, 16 Main St., will be open until 8 p.m. Aug. 15. Voting on Election Day will be at Old Hammondtown School, 20 Shaw St. Call the clerk at 508-758-4100, ext. 2.

NEW BEDFORD: The Election Commission Office, Room 114 in City Hall at 133 William St. will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 15. Any New Bedford resident who is uncertain about their voting status, designated polling location, has changed their address since the last election or would like to request an absentee ballot should contact the Board of Election Commissioners at 508-979-1420.

ROCHESTER: The clerk’s office is at Rochester Town Hall, Constitution Way. Call 508-763-3871.

WAREHAM: The clerk’s office, 54 Marion Road, will be open until 8 p.m. Aug. 15. Call 508-291-3100, ext. 3142.

WESTPORT: The Registar of Voters Office, 816 Main Road (in Town Hall), will be open from 4 to 8 p.m. Aug. 15. Call 508-636-1001.
