NEW BEDFORD —  The 29th annual Coats for Kids (and grownups, too!) drive is underway and organizers are seeking donations of new or gently worn winter coats and jackets.

Hats, scarves, mittens, gloves and blankets are also needed.

Donations are being accepted through Friday, Dec. 14 at:

New Bedford City Hall, 133 William St., Room 220
First Unitarian Church, 71 Eighth St. (Call 508-994-9686 to be sure they are open)
Spherion Staffing Services, 365 Faunce Corner Road, Dartmouth 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Donations can also be dropped off for the drive at the Unitarian Church,  71 Eighth St. on Saturday, Dec. 15 between 9 and 11 a.m.

Coats will be distributed to anyone in need from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. that day at the church, which is handicapped accessible. Members of the Mayor's Youth Council will be on hand to assist.

In the past, the greatest demand has been for children, men’s and larger-sized women’s coats. Over the history of the drive, Coats for Kids has given away more than 12,300 coats and helped more than 200 families and individuals each year.

This year’s coat drive is again sponsored by the City of New Bedford Mayor’s Youth Council, the YWCA of Southeastern Massachusetts, City of New Bedford Office of Community Services and the First Unitarian Church.

For more information about the coat drive, call the YWCA at 508-999-3255 or Pam Pollock at 508-965-6927.
