NEW BEDFORD — Angelo Raposo Melo, 83, of New Bedford, died Sunday, July 2, 2017 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Maria Esperanca (Melo) and son of the late Francisco Melo Pine and Angelinha Raposo Amaral. Born in Ribeira Quente, Sao Miguel, Acores, he immigrated to New Jersey in 1978 and resided in New Bedford since 1980. 

Mr. Melo was employed as an assembler at A.F.C. Cable until his retirement. He was a communicant of Our Lady Of Mount Carmel Church. Mr. Melo enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

His family includes his wife, Maria Esperanca Melo of New Bedford; 2 sons, Angelo C. Melo of New Bedford and Joao Paul Melo and his wife, Kimberly of Acushnet; 3 daughters, Zelia M. Arruda and her husband, Antonio of New Bedford, Maria D. Soares and her husband, Christiano of Dartmouth and Esperanca M. Reis and her husband, Dinis of New Bedford; 1 brother, Joao Pine of New Bedford; 2 sisters, Zelia Oliveira and Maria Vieira, both of New Bedford; 10 grandchildren, Diane Couto, Stephanie Arruda, Jason Soares, Jessica Melo, Kayla Soares, Eric Reis, Sonia Reis, Jonathan Melo, Richard Melo and Sarah Melo; 8 great-grandchildren, Alyssa Couto, Devin Couto, Ayden Resendes, Ava Gomes, Owen Resendes, Noah Gomes, Eliah Melo and Claire Soares; several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Maria L. Couto.

Visiting hours Wednesday evening 5:00-8:00. His funeral will be Thursday morning 9:30 at the funeral home with a Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated in Our Lady Of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30.
