NEW BEDFORD — Sharon B. Johnson (Lackey), age 77, of New Bedford, MA, went home to be with the Lord on August 20, 2018.
She was born in Montclair, NJ, to Russell W. and Jane E. Lackey (Whiteley). She lived in Bloomfield, NJ, and later Cape May Court House, NJ, where she graduated from Middle TWP High School. In 1967 she moved to New Bedford, MA, where she lived for the past 51 years. She was the widow of Ronald J. Johnson and was predeceased by their daughter Kari Lee Johnson.
She is survived by her daughters and their spouses: Lori and Gilbert Gonsalves of Rochester, MA, Kirsten and Robert Keough of Acushnet, MA, Karla and Craig Lyne of East Taunton, MA, and by her son Paul Hutchinson and his companion Lorraine Wannamaker of Pompano, FL.
She is also survived by her brothers Bruce W. Lackey of Garden Grove, CA, and Alan E. Lackey and his wife Gloria Lackey of Cape May Court House, NJ. and by four nieces and eight nephews.
She loved her five grandchildren: Nicole, Aimee and Leane Gonsalves and Cory and Tyler Lyne and her two great-grandchildren Jaxson and Avery Larson.
She was cherished by her companion of the past 12 years Vic Wotherspoon of Taunton.
She was an active member of The Acushnet -Wesley United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and crafts at Vacation Bible School. She was a member of the UM Women’s Group and Co-Lay Leader as well as missions chairperson for many years . She was a certified Lay speaker for the UMC and preached in several area churches.
She was a volunteer for the Buzzards Bay Habitat for Humanity.
As be her wishes, she was cremated and will be interred with the ashes of her husband Ronald at the Acushnet Cemetery.
There will be a memorial service in her honor, to be held on Sunday, October 7, 2018, at 1:30 PM at the Acushnet -Wesley United Methodist Church, 67 Main Street, Acushnet.
