NEW BEDFORD — She left this world on October 10, 2018 just two months shy of her 95th birthday and welcomed death with the same eagerness as she had embraced her daily life.
Born "Marie Jeanne" Florence Parent, daughter of the late Delphis and Ann (Hevey) Parent in New Bedford on December 26, 1923, she was proud of her French Canadian heritage. She was educated in New Bedford schools and was a communicant of St. Joseph-St. Therese Church. She became a seamstress working in the New Bedford garment industry at Economy Blouse and later at Jemy Sportswear until her retirement.
An avid hobbyist, and lifetime collector of owls, she enjoyed countless hours of needlepoint, cross stitch and bead crafts. In addition, she relished her time playing "scat" with her family and friends. She was a member of the St. Anthony Seniors and enjoyed playing Bingo at Buttonwood Park and running "Whist Parties" at Brooklawn Senior Center.
She became a widow early in her life at the death of her first husband, Edgar Goyette in 1956. After nearly two decades alone she found love again with her second husband Ralph Monti, who predeceased her in 1997. In addition she was predeceased by her four sisters, Bernadette Parent, Irene Forcier, Antoinette Schell, Alice Kimball, her brother Joseph Parent and her niece Lorraine Trial.
She will be remembered fondly by those she left behind; her niece Jackie Langelier, her nephews Louis and his wife Louise Trial, Rene and his wife Michelle Trial and all of their children; Melissa Walsh, Renee Trial, Danielle Lucini and Hailey Trial.
Arrangements are placed in the care of Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, MA. At her request, there will be no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 15, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph-St. Therese Church, 51 Duncan St., New Bedford, MA, followed by burial at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
