I hope that the cellphone ban while driving law passes the Legislature. It is long overdue and needed. However, I don't see it will be enforced.

Police are on one side of the road, and you are talking on your cell while driving on the other. He sees you ... now what? Are they going to chase you and pull you over? I doubt it very much. Pulling a U-turn on County Street or Rockdale Avenue in New Bedford in order to pull you over would be tough.

If the police see you with the phone in your hand while driving, they should be able to get your plate number and send you the ticket. I don't see this working otherwise, unless I'm missing something in the way it is going to be written.

No one I know has ever gotten a ticket for no lights when wipers are on, and that's the law.
