SOMERSET — The Pirates are the 2017 Somerset Baseball League Rookie Division champs. Following a series win in the first round of the playoffs, the Pirates found themselves against some tough competition in the championship round. After losing Game One of the best of three games series 12-9, the Pirates fought back with a come from behind win in Game Two, 11-10. Game Three had both teams playing hard until the end, causing the Pirates to hold off a final inning rally for the win and the championship, 11-9.

Everyone did their part contributing to the win. Devon Lefrancois and Charlie Farias were speedy on the base paths with steals and runs scored. Defensively, Liam Cox, Patrick Curtis and James McKenna sured up things with their gloves and arms while in the field. At the plate, Jackson Lambert and Ben Theriault provided some timely RBI. On the mound, Nathan Souza and Brayden Kitchen were mentally and physically tough when pitching throughout the series. Meanwhile, Annabelle Senecal was gritty behind the plate doing the catching. They played played hard, had fun and never quit. The players deserve all the credit. They are the champs, but more importantly, they are a great group of kids. They made their coaches and parents proud.
