MIDDLEBORO — The deadline to turn in nomination papers for the 4th annual Honorary Mayor of Middleborough Contest was Wednesday, January 31st.
This year’s 2018 honorary mayoral candidates are Kate Mackiewicz with a deputy mayor running mate of Jane Lopes and the accompanying cause that Kate is trying to bring more awareness to is the Soule Homestead Education Center; Sylvia Camandona with a deputy mayor running mate of Mertie Romaine and the accompanying cause that Sylvia is trying to bring more awareness to is the South Middleboro Grange; Glenn Montapert with a deputy mayor running mate of John Shaw Jr. and the accompanying cause that Glenn is trying to bring more awareness to is the Mayflower Lodge Ancient Free and Accepted Masons; and Eric Jacobson with a deputy mayor running mate of Wayne M. Caron and the accompanying cause that Eric is trying to bring more attention to is the Special Olympics of Massachusetts.
The four candidates will be out and about the community and online until Saturday, March 31st 2018, the end of the campaigning season for this year, raising money for their individual mayoral campaigns. Watch for their individual and group fund raising events.
Each dollar raised is a vote for their campaign and candidate with the most dollar/votes wins the prestigious title of being the 2018 Honorary Mayor of Middleborough. While at the individual online pages of the candidates you can take advantage of using their paypal accounts to cast your dollar/votes. Additionally, checks can be mailed to the Friends of Middleborough Cemeteries Inc. at P. O. box 172 Middleborough MA 02346 or dropped off at the T. M. Ryder Insurance agency at 8 Thatcher Row in Middleborough.
Please remember to put the name or names of the candidates that you’re voting for on the memo line of all checks and make the checks payable to the Friends of Middleborough Cemeteries. For Kate Mackiewicz deposits can be made directly into her Mayor of Middleborough account at either of the Rockland Trust Company locations in Middleborough.
You don’t need to be a resident of Middleborough or an individual to vote in this fun loving campaign. Businesses and cooperation’s are encouraged to help out in this fund raising event. One of the primary mottos of the Mayoral Campaign is to vote early and often. Contributors can cast as many dollar/votes as they like for as many of the candidates that they choose. Just remember that the deadline to vote is Saturday, March 31.
The winner will be announced at an inauguration ceremony that will be held in early April of this year. The exact date and time of the inauguration ceremony will be announced at a later time.
There will be a group fund raiser for all the candidates at Friendly’s of Middleborough from 8:00am – 8:00pm on Tuesday, February 13. With one of the Friends of Middleborough Cemeteries Friendly’s fund raising slips being presented to the waitstaff at the restaurant, 20% of your purchase will be donated to the campaigns of the candidates. All the candidates have copies of the Friendly’s fund raising slips that you can get from them.
The monies raised will be used by the Friends of Middleborough Cemeteries (FoMC) to help pay for the supplies needed for cleaning headstones in our local cemeteries, plus, landscaping, and revitalization of the cemeteries. Additionally, 2018 may well see the FoMC start training classes on headstone repair. (we will being inviting volunteers to learn how to repair headstones?) Furthermore, monies raised from the mayoral contest will be used for matching cemetery grants and holding historical and educational forums within the community on cemetery related topics.
