MIDDLEBORO — “Libraries Rock!,” the Middleborough Public Library’s 2018 Adult Summer Reading Program (ASRP), kicks off on Sat., June 16 and runs through Thurs., August 30, 2018. Adults ages 18 and up are encouraged to participate in a variety of library and music-related challenges throughout the summer. The more activities you log, the more chances you have to win one of five prize packs that include gift cards generously donated by The Cabin, Charred Oak Tavern, Fisher’s Pub, the Main Ingredient, and Persy's Place. Prizes will be awarded at the end of the program. Register online at www.midlib.org, starting June 16.
As part of the ASRP, the Library will host two musical concerts: The first concert is on Tuesday, July 10 at 6:30 p.m. The Twangtown Paramours’ music has been called "sophisticated Americana" and is a hybrid of the Nashville and Austin music scenes. This husband and wife acoustic duo is known for its well-crafted and award-winning songs, top-notch lead singing and fine harmonies. The second concert is Wednesday, August 15 at 6:00 p.m. "Knock on Wood,” a high-energy, acoustic folk-rock duo, features singer/songwriter Howie Newman on guitar, lead vocals and harmonica. Newman will be joined by either Joe Kessler or Steve Latanision, two of the top fiddlers in the area who also play mandolin and sing backup vocals. They perform well-known rock covers, as well as original music, in a lively show with great musicianship, vocal harmonies and G-rated humor sprinkled throughout.
The Library also will host three all-ages workshops throughout the summer, with the adult sessions offered at the following times: Ukulele Workshop with Julie Stepanek, Tuesday., July 17, 6:00 p.m; Drumming Workshop with Cape Cod African Dance & Drum, Thursday., July 19, 5:30 p.m.; Mosaic Tile Workshop with Leslie Doherty, Thurs., July 26, 6:00 p.m.
Please note that all three workshops are registration only, as space is limited. Sign-ups begin June 16.
Summer Reading kicks off with an all-ages performance by Cape Cod African Dance & Drum at 1:00 p.m., at the Middleborough Historical Museum, 18 Jackson St., on June 16. Enjoy the uplifting sounds and sights as they perform traditional African music and dance. All ages are invited to participate actively in the rhythms, movement and song. (The event will be held rain or shine as it will be tented.)
Following the performance, guests are invited back to the Library from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. for an ice cream social and Summer Reading registration. Sign up for the children’s, teen, or adult summer reading program on kickoff day for a chance to win one of six $10 Dunkin’ Donuts gift cards.
Pick up a Summer Reading brochure at the Library for more detailed information. The ASRP is made by possible by the generosity of the Wilfred M. Silvia Trust and the Friends of the Middleborough Public Library.
