MIDDLEBORO — On Saturday, October 13 from 2:00pm until 7:00pm, the Tourism Committee will host Crantoberfest 2018 at the KOA.
In honor of the Cranberry Industry, Middleborough Tourism’s Oktoberfest has become Crantoberfest. This cranberry-themed, family-friendly event will offer entertainment and activities for all ages. Along with our annual kid’s costume contest and cabin decorating contest, we have added several new competitions this year to add to the fun and excitement of the day.
The day begins at 2:00pm with contests and activities scheduled throughout the day:
3:00pm, The Great Cranberry Bakeoff Competition
Are you a skilled baker? Do you have a prized cranberry recipe you’d love to share? Bring your favorite baked cranberry recipe (enough for 3 judges to sample) between 12:00pm and 2:00pm. Judging will begin promptly at 3:00 pm and prizes will be awarded to the top three bakers. If you choose to enter your cranberry creation, please provide an ingredient list with the dish to avoid any potential allergens. The competition is open to everyone and individuals may enter more than one recipe.
4:00pm, Ms. Crantober Contest
Come dressed in your best Crantober outfit and join the fun in this lighthearted contest. All contestants will be asked to give a speech telling why they will make a good Ms. Crantober. Judges will test the contestants’ knowledge of cranberries with several cranberry “test” questions. This is an easygoing contest for all ages. The winner of Ms. Crantober will receive a crown and a sash and is welcome to represent Middleborough Tourism at all their events and activities throughout the year. If you are interested in participating in the Ms. Crantober contest, please sign up ahead of time by calling the Tourism Office at (774) 766-6335 or emailing at DiscoverMiddleborough@gmail.com.
5:00pm, Kid’s Costume Parade and Contest
Join us for our 5th annual costume parade and contest. Children wishing to participate should come dressed in their favorite costume. The parade will begin at 5:00pm and will be led by our distinguished alpacas. Candy will be given to all participants. Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place as well as other categories including funniest costume, most original costume and scariest costume.
6:00pm, Cabin Decorating Contest
Come by, view the cabins and then vote for your favorite cabin decorated by various groups in the community. Cash prizes are awarded to the cabins with the top three highest votes. All cabins to be decorated have been reserved, but if you would like to be on our waiting list to decorate, please contact the Tourism Office at (774) 766-6335 or email at DiscoverMiddleborough@gmail.com.
2:00pm to 5:00pm, Cranberry Games
Throughout the day, join us for a variety of cranberry-themed games. Toss a cranberry ball through a hoop, sink a golf ball into a giant cranberry, corn toss in the mouth of a cranberry and transport cranberries on a spoon to name a few of the games available. These games are fun for the whole family.
Food, merchandise vendors and beer garden will be open all day long. The cost is $2.00 per carload and free to all KOA campers. Well-behaved and leashed dogs are welcome. Parking is available at the KOA; please inform attendant if you require handicapped parking.
The KOA is located at 438 Plymouth Street in Middleborough. For more information you can call Middleborough Tourism at 774-766-6335, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org, follow us on Facebook at Middleborotoday or check out our website at www.discovermiddleborough.com.
