Old Rochester got off to a hot start in the first quarter and they spread things out on offense the rest of the way in an 88-78 non-conference boys basketball win over Martha's Vineyard on Tuesday in Mattapoisett.

The Bulldogs outscored the Vineyarders 31-14 in the first eight minutes of action and coach Steve Carvalho called it a “good offensive night, we got lots of kids in the book ... but as the schedule stiffens and with postseason on the horizon we’ve got to work on some things.”

Leading the way in the score book was Bennett Fox who scored 29 points and added five assists. Jason Gamache added nine points and eight assists and Matt Brogioli played well with 11 points and five rebounds.

The second half, where the Bulldogs were outscored 46-39, provided a few teaching points for Carvalho.

"We’ve got to keep on working on shooting, and we’ve got to work on defending the arc better, (because) they had a bunch of threes in the fourth quarter," he said.

The Bulldogs will be back in action on Friday at 6:30 against Case in a South Coast Conference crossover game. Old Rochester will try to contain the Cardinals and SCC league-leading scorer Drew Plante ORR beat Case 66-54 in the teams' first meeting.
